White Pencil Skirt

I saw Naomi Watts in a white pencil skirt and was thinking ‘how gorgeous’ when I suddenly remembered I have one exactly the same! Do you ever forget items like this? It was a delightful surprise.

I bought this skirt at Zara in Cape Town, SA. But thanks  to lighting-fast-fashion, it is no longer listed on their website. Found this stunning one here from Charlotte Russe on sale for $15 which is similar

Grey top – Gap. Trucker Jacket – Levis.

I am trying to smile more in my posts, because I hate looking like I am so serious, but at the same time I don’t like fake smiles. So unless something makes me laugh or I am super happy by default, please understand the  toothless-ness. I need to take inspiration from blogger Skinny Hipster who always has a HUGE natural smile.

I found this awesome rose gold ring (it’s costume) in a little boutique shop. I love how it looks with loads of outfits.

Leather Trim

A gorgeous pencil skirt is always a work wardrobe staple. This black and white beauty with leather trim, takes the classic work pencil to an entirely new level of fab. I just love the leather detail across the waist band and down the middle at the front. And the fact the back is slightly longer than the front so the side-view rocks.

I find it rather amazing and cringe at the same time, that my skirt literally matches the black and white paneling of my handbag. To an outsider they must think ‘good grief, this woman is serious about fashion’ but between you and I, we know this was a total (albeit happy) coincidence.

The only word of caution I have is that you need to constantly look down to ensure the leather stripe is exactly in the centre. Every time I stood up it has shifted slightly. So it is a rather high maintenance skirt, but well worth it if you ask me. And by the end of the day I was simply ‘feeling’ for the stripe and adjusting mid-step. Coz that’s how we fashionistas roll.

Skirt – Zara. Heels – Nine West Caress. Jacket – Mango. Black vest – H&M. Bag – Charles & Keith.

The black side panels are especially flattering as have a slimming effect on the eye.

The Black Pencil Skirt

A well-fitted black pencil skirt is probably the most versatile item in a working girls wardrobe. A good waist band is essential, no digging-in allowed. I added a simple grey jacket, which made the look more formal, and some patent heels which are very ‘Kate Middleton’ and surprisingly comfortable.

Straight cut cotton pencil skirt – Mango. Striped top – Zara. Grey jacket – G2000. Patent pumps – Nine West. Tangerine Tote – TopShop. Pink bracelet – Kate Spade. Gold hoops – similar

1950’s Neon

One of my favorite things is a well cut, knee length, high waist pencil skirt. This ones is years old but always remains in fashion because the print is tiny hounds tooth-style which is pretty classic. And a high wasit hides the muffin top!

I also watched a Mad Men re-run last night and was inspired by the Jessica Rabbit curves that were emphasized with girdles and corsets. Today we have Spanx! Haha

To keep the skirt modern I paired with a neon shirt, tucked in, and some black peep toes. Minimal jewelry because the neon is fairly bold!

I also wear this skirt with a simple white collared shirt, tucked in, for a more classic, professional approach.
